How often do you ask for something that you want only to get what you don’t want? For me, it was often. I have discovered that I usually ask for something because of something I am experiencing that is unpleasant. It usually goes like this…

I experience something unpleasant in my environment and react to it which usually causes me to feel an unpleasant emotion. Then, I associate the negative emotion with the person, place, or thing that I reacted to. This, in turn elicits momentum, which continues to keep me focused on the unpleasant emotions and situations similar to the originating one.

Are you following me so far?

So now I am feeling pretty crappy, and I give birth to a new desired outcome. But instead of focusing on the new desired outcome, I am still focused on the what-is-ness of my experience. My thoughts, feelings, and maybe even my beliefs are making it really difficult to stay focused on my future solution and desired outcome…

So what is the solution you may ask? Make a decision. A decision to focus attention and intention on something that feels good – anything! Maybe pet the cat or listen to some uplifting music, go for a walk, eat some chocolate, call a friend.

The bottom line is that there needs to be a willingness to feel good NOW. Why does anyone want anything? Because they believe they will be happier in the having of it, so why not choose to feel happier NOW?

I realize that it isn’t always this simple, or at least the storyteller inside our head tells us that, but actually it is. One decision at a time creates the positive momentum needed to change. The funny thing is if I focus on feeling good NOW then I don’t care about the “thing” I desired coming into my experience. There is something odd about letting go, yet when I let go, everything comes!
