Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing
(EMDR)

It keeps happening, again and again.

A sound, a smell, a thought, or someone’s words trigger you – and you find yourself spinning out of control, filled with panic, terror, sadness, or rage.

It feels like the past is happening all over again – but it’s not! You wish it would stop and don’t understand why you can’t just get over it.

Those feelings sabotage your dreams and goals, never allowing you to get ahead. You are a perfectionist, never entirely satisfied with your performance – it’s never good enough.

It’s hard for you to communicate and express your feelings assertively. You feel uncomfortable with physical touch.

Trauma presents itself in so many ways.

Trauma can cause anxiety, panic attacks, fear, anger, irritability, and mood swings.

Difficulty falling or staying asleep are physical expressions of trauma.

Negative thoughts and feelings can make you withdraw from family, friends, and activities you once enjoyed. Those feelings can make you emotionally numb, detached, and depressed.

Intrusive thoughts, nightmares, and flashbacks trigger memories of that traumatic experience. To suppress those memories, you might turn to unhealthy behaviors, but nothing really helps in the long run.

Trauma has many causes.

Single events like war, assault, natural disaster, or an automobile accident can create lasting memories.

Multiple events, such as emotional, physical, or sexual abuse, or neglect, can trigger responses many years later.

Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) can occur throughout a child’s developmental years.

All the above experiences are interchangeable in how trauma can impact your life.

EMDR Therapy can provide relief from trauma.

Trauma treatment can vary depending on the complexity of the trauma and the types of symptoms you may present. In most cases, EMDR Therapy can successfully treat PTSD and other forms of trauma, including acute stress or anxiety and depression stemming from adverse experiences.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) represents a form of therapy initially developed in 1987 to treat post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This treatment modality is an evidence-based approach used to treat adverse experiences of trauma for over 30 years.

EMDR therapy focuses directly on that negative memory by helping the brain process experiences that have not healed naturally.

EMDR changes how the memory is stored in the brain but doesn’t change or erase them. Instead, it helps the brain integrate the memories so our bodies can stop feeling distressed when not wanted or needed.

Don’t let past trauma rule your life.

We can work together to help you reprocess those memories and overcome the adverse hold that trauma has on your life.

In our sessions together, we can use EMDR alone as a focused treatment or integrate it with other trauma approaches.

I have training in multiple trauma treatment approaches, and we can discuss which one is best for you. You will be able to sit in the driver’s seat and be fully informed of your healing journey.
